Tech Embraces Its Guru

The narrative of a High Tech Guru converges with a  feminist writers essay from 1970 on masked group leadership. Are America’s high tech giants good people? The futurist philosopher Yuval Noah Harari thinks Silicon Valley is an engine of dystopian ruin. So why do Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and others adore him so?

The 1970 essay ”The Tyranny of Structurelessness’ by feminist Jo Freeman gives insights into Silicon Valley’s high minded tyranny.  “this apparent lack of structure too often disguised an informal, unacknowledged and unaccountable leadership that was all the more pernicious because its very existence was denied.” As a solution, Freeman suggests formalizing the existing hierarchies in the group and subjecting them to democratic control.
